Head Games Writer

Today marked the first full news day for me being nominally in charge of the Games section at Bleeding Cool. Since I’ll be doing a ton of posts from here on out, I’ll just be leaving a link to the archive rather than innundate eveyone with 5+ posts a day.

I’ve updated my contact page to reflect that, but its always nice to reiterate these things.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Wants Your Money

Obsidian Entertainment launched its Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire crowdfunding campaign on Fig today. You can go ahead and check it out if you like, give them your lunch money like a playground shakedown or just to figure out what exactly is Fig. That last one I can help you with, as some of you may recall I did a bit of an expose on Fig back on Sunday so that’ll save you a google search. Will The Square Enix and Marvel #TheAvenger’s Project Be A Money Draining Freemium Game?

By this point, I think we’ve all seen the trailer for the upcoming Marvel and Square Enix collaboration series of AAA games. Which, while very new, has struck me as nothing more but another attempt by Marvel to try and launch a game series with no major substance.

The trailer gives us almost nothing other than a hashtag and recycled images of Avengers’ weapons lying on piles of rubble. The Cap shield has been used multiple times, mostly in failed Marvel mobile titles  – Marvel War of Heroes used almost the exact same images, Marvel Heroes MMO‘s opening had Cap’s shield encased in ice as a major set piece, and its been used countless times in the comics. Ariana Grande Joins Final Fantasy Brave Exvius

Last year at E3 it was announced that Ariana Grande would be a playable character in a Final Fantasy mobile title. That game is Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a free-to-play RPG which has perhaps the most Final Fantasy premise I’ve ever seen. You have to go around clearing dungeons and shrines of monsters to help purify crystals, all at the behest of a girl literally encased in one. Oh right, and you have a kingdom to save, but that’s just details.

Plumbing The Depths Of Madness With Call of Cthulhu

Cyanide Studios’ Call of Cthulhu will be the latest game to try and tackle the absurd horror of H. P. Lovecraft‘s most famous creation.

The new trailer takes a look at what happens to protagonist and PI Edward Pierce when confronted with a ton of Lovecraftian horror. Insanity is a common theme in Lovecraft’s anthology of horror, and this game would not be complete without some kind of descent into madness. Read the rest at Bleeding Cool.
